Barons relishing the chance to perform once more on home ice

The Direct Taxis Solihull Barons will finally return to home ice after what seems like an eternity following a quirk in the fixtures which saw a run of six away ties in a row and left a home support longing for a return of their heroes.

Sam Hewitt was a key part of the Solihull victory last time the sides met at Hobs Moat (S Crampton)

Sunday evening’s tie promises to be cracker as, while the Sharks are runaway leaders in the Moralee, the Barons took 2 points from them when they last visited Hobs Moat back in October and the two ties in Dumfries were decided by a single goal, each time in favour of the Scottish side.

For Callum Bowley, the chance to get back on home ice can’t come soon enough :

“It’s never easy playing 6 away games on the bounce but I have to say the guys have done a fantastic job considering we are extremely short benched due to injuries. We lost Matt Maurice early on in the season and he’s proved to be a big loss, we also have James Smith, Dan Harrison and Stano nursing injuries as well so the primary focus right now is to get them guys back to full strength and in the lineup in time for playoffs.

“The guys can’t wait to hit the ice on Sunday and put in a strong performance against league leaders Solway. We’re the only team in the league to take points from them, so we’ll be going into the weekend full of confidence and look to bounce back with a big win at home. Enjoy the game!

Hope to see you all down at the rink on Sunday for what promises to be some thrilling end to end hockey ! Face-off 5.30pm.
