Barons supporting local families through the HAF programme

The Direct Taxis Solihull Barons are delighted to be able to support local families by partnering in the Government’s “Holidays, Actvities and Food” (HAF) initiative. This scheme is designed to support qualifying families during the school holidays, providing free access to sports and leisure activities, while also promoting healthy eating.

It was Barons goalie, Sam Hewitt, who brought the scheme to the club through his educational sports academy.  This scheme should see up to 100 invited youngsters, together with a parent or guardian, join us at the Widnes Wild games on both the 18th December and 2nd January. Here we will offer free game attendance, access to nutritious in game food and provide goody bags to help our visitors remember, what for many will be their first ever hockey games.

Dave Hayward, Barons chair, jumped at the chance to get involved; “When Sam came to us with the idea of getting involved in the initiative we seized the chance. The Barons see ourselves as a community club – we have always provided the opportunity for youth groups to join us for games for free – but this initiative allows us to really reach out that bit more. It is going to be great to welcome our HAF guests over the Christmas holidays and we are sure they will have a tremendous evening’s entertainment”.

While many of the visitors will be joining us through their Schools it is also possible for parents or guardians of HAF qualifying individuals to book directly. Please see here.
