Barons End of Season Awards – Tom Soar : Top Points

TC Cars Solihull Barons END OF SEASON AWARDS

Tom Soar

Top Points Scorer 2019-20

After a year away from Solihull when work took him South, it was a major boost to the Barons faithful when Tom Soar signed up at the start of the past season. That faith was quickly repaid and Soarsy was very quickly spinning up the stats, emerging the team’s top points scorer for the year. Never short for a word or two, Tom was delighted to pick up the award.

Two goals for Tom Soar (S Crampton)

”Firstly, I hope you’re all keeping well and safe and making the most of the off season. Coach Dangie called this morning and told me to write a few words for an award I’ve won, at this moment in time I don’t know what it’s for, but I feel honoured for being recognised!

”Looking back on the year, I have to say it’s been up there with one of the most enjoyable years of my career. We won a cup, something we haven’t achieved since my arrival in 2014 where we went unbeaten and (only just!) won the playoffs in our home rink. It was also great to be back with the guys again after a year absence, there’s a really good changing room at Solihull which is one of the main reasons I returned. Some of the younger guys have really grown into their roles which is nice to see.

“Travelling up from South London a couple of times a week has aged me a few years. It was incredibly tough at times leaving for training straight from work at 6, getting home at 1:45am and straight to work the next morning. That along with a few 4am Monday wake up calls to drive from my Dad’s in Nottingham if we’ve played in Whitley on the Sunday evening. It’s all worth it to play for the club I love.

”It’s a shame the season was cut short just before play-offs, as a full strength side, there’s no reason why we couldn’tgo all the way. We ended the season on a high with a victory in Billingham (4 goals from myself but who’s counting?!) with a sing song in the room afterwards to celebrate.

“Thank you for my award, I hope you all stay safe and I’ll hopefully see you all again soon.

Tom’s award is the first of a number we will be presenting over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned for more in the coming days. We also have some work for you, our supporters ! We will soon let you know how you can vote for the Supporters’ Player of the Year, so have a think and be ready for when we release the poll !
