Recap

Widnes Wild : 5
EDG Property Solihull Barons : 3

A week after narrowly beating the Widnes Wild on home ice the EDG Property Solihull Barons fell to the same side, this time at the Cheshire team’s own rink.

Wild fill their net (J&K Davies)

Mid-way through the first period, the Wild’s Damarni James was the first to find the net via support from playmaker Kyle Carruth. By period end the Barons had drawn level, Jacob Race with the finish, off of play from James Moeller and Dani Haid.

Max Soden goes for the unorthodox (J&K Davies)

The second period saw the home side start to stretch their legs and ask questions of the visiting Barons. An early goal by Mikey Gilbert for the Wild was quickly countered by Dan Mulcahy and the Barons top line. Damarni James would however soon find his second goal of the night to put Widnes back in front before Joey Coulter gave the Wild a two goal margin heading to the third.

Max Soden clears the goal mouth (J&K Davies)

An elbows call on the Wild’s Kyle Carruth gave the Barons a 5 minute powerplay early in the third and a possible chance to peg the Wild back once more. A strong shut-down performance by the Wild and lack of finish in front of the excellent Harrison Walker in the Widnes net ensured this would not be the case. A goal apiece would be traded before the buzzer, Sam Chandler for the Barons and Coulter for the Wild however the differential would remain and Solihull would not be taking home any points.

Alex Whyte (J&K Davies)

The Barons have a two-game weekend coming up. The Deeside Dragons make their way to Solihull for our final SATURDAY tie of the year (face-off 7pm). With these two sides closely matched in 2nd and 3rd in the league it should be a very close one but one Solihull will be determined to win. The Barons then head to Ice Sheffield for Sunday’s tie against the Scimitars.
