Recap

EDG Property Solihull Barons : 6
Whitley Warriors : 2

The EDG Property Solihull Barons continued their strong run of home performances with a convincing win over the Whitley Warriors on Saturday evening.

Bailey Challans (S Crampton)

After three minutes the Warriors were first to trouble the scorers. A power play following a boarding call gave the visitors the extra man. An Adam Finlinson shot was parried to the left hand post and sat there for a second or so before Callum Queenan saw the opportunity to put a stick to it and tap the puck home over the goal line. After 5 minutes the Solihull Barons Niklas Ottosson fired home from the slot off of a Dan Mulcahy play from behind the net.

The sides would emerge for period 2 balanced evenly on a goal apiece. After 8 minutes of the second the Barons took the lead for the first time in the evening. Jacob Race slid home the puck under a prone Dean Bowater for Solihull’s second. After 11 minutes of the second period, Dan Mulcahy scored from the left hand circle to extend the Barons lead.

With two minutes of the middle twenty left the Warriors clawed a goal back as Kyle Ross found a way beyond Graham Laverick for the Northumbrian side’s second goal. The Barons would quickly counter with a goal from Jordan Stokes in the dying seconds of period 2 to once more plump the Barons cushion.

By the third period the Warriors were beginning to flag and while still getting shots on goal the quality and pace had begun to drop. After 7 minutes in Niklas Ottoson scored his second of the evening. The game looked to have been put to bed within the minute, only for a Barons goal to be disallowed due to high sticks in the lead up play. The Barons would however get goal number 6 before the night was out, Phil Mulcahy poking the puck home a couple of minutes before the buzzer to round off a confident home display.
