Sheffield Scimitars – Solihull Barons

The EDG Barons put behind them the overturning of last weekends win over Blackburn following the icing of the suspended Billy Crofts in that game with a solid away win over the Sheffield Scimitars on Saturday afternoon.

The Barons were quick of the mark with Dani Haid netting short-handed after less than two minutes for his first goal in a Barons shirt, Jacob Race picking up the assist. The home side levelled up by the time the first period was up, captain  Tyler Nixon guiding the puck past Laverick.

Bang on the half hour mark Niklas Ottosson fired Solihull into the lead once more before linemate Dan Mulcahy got the puck past Nick Winters in the Scim’s net for the Barons third. By period end the two sides would trade goals Sam Keeling and Jacob Brammer for Sheffield with Niklas Ottosson picking up his second goal of the night for Solihull to leave the Barons holding a narrow 4-3 lead going into the final 20 minutes.

A single goal lead in the final period is always a fragile thing, so Barons nerves were eased with a 41st minute Solihull goal courtesy of Nik Ottosson racking up his hat-trick to earn Solihull a two goal cushion which was rested on  until the buzzer and the two points were secured.

Solihull are back in action this evening as they take on Billingham Stars at Hobs Moat. The Stars have won three of their four ties this season with a double over Deeside, a win against Sheffield and a loss in their season opener versus Hull. Both the Barons and Stars will be keen to continue their momentum so a strongly contested game is in the offing!
