Recap

Blackburn Hawks : 3
EDG Solihull Barons : 9

The EDG Property Solihull Barons made it a four point weekend with an emphatic win away at the Blackburn Hawks on Sunday. The win positions the Barons 2nd in the Moralee league, 4 points behind but with three games in hand, to the Billingham Stars.

Rich Crowe eyes up a breakout from the Barons end (J&K Davies)

Within the first few minutes of the game start the Mulcahy brothers showed a sign of things to come as Phil acted as provider for Dan just after the four minute mark, the younger sibling drawing Ben Keddie across the net and exploiting the resulting space to give the Barons the opener. By 7 minutes the Barons had doubled their lead as a Niklas Ottosson shot was saved only for the rebound to be slotted home by Dan Mulcahy once more. The Barons lead would not hold however and by the end of the first period the Hawks had levelled up, Bobby Streetly with a 17th minute powerplay score before Marcus Thacker got the home side’s second goal, with a mere 15 seconds left on the clock.

Sam Chandler awaits the puck drop (J&K Davies)

The second period gave the Barons the chance to stretch their legs however and ease away from the Hawks in impressive fashion. Three unanswered goals – a pair from Niklas Ottosson and a single from Dan Mulcahy put the game more or less beyond the home side.

Matt Maurice was back on the scorecard (J&K Davies)

By the final period the Hawks heads had gone down somewhat and any chance of a late comeback by Blackurn was swept clean off the ice as Matt Maurice, Niklas Ottosson and Dan Mulcahy continued to rack up the goals for a Barons side which had spent much of the second half of the match setting up home in the Hawks end. A late James Riddock goal for Blackburn gave the home support a little something to take home but the points were already heading down to the West Midlands.

The Barons are on the road next weekend when they make the relatively short hop to Nottingham to take on the Lions on Sunday evening before returning to Hobs Moat on Saturday where they will host the Widnes Wild.
