Selly back to head up the D-squad

Ryan Selwood will be the latest Barons returnee and will head up the APL Solihull Barons D in the 2016-17 Moralee campaign.

Solihull native Ryan Selwood (28) began his career coming through the Solihull junior system before emerging into the professional ranks at Coventry (Elite) and Basingstoke and Telford (EPL). Now back with the Barons for a fourth year the fast and mobile D-man was praised by couch Perry Doyle - "I honestly think he is probably the best British D in the league - he gives so much to the game, is always up with the play and means so much to the team, is a real leader in the dressing room and on the ice."

Joining Selwood on the Blue Line will be another Barons regular Richard Crowe. 21 year old Crowe is another product of the Solihull junior system, who earned a spot with the senior Barons in 2012-13 while still playing for the under 18s. A D-man with a focus on doing a solid closing down game in his own end, his offensive capability should also not be underestimated thanks to a thunderous slap shot from the point.

Joining Selwood and Crowe on defensive duties will be veteran Phil Knight. Popular Knight has spent his entire hockey career at Hobs Moat and served the Barons as assistant Captain through last season. Knight has traditionally played as a stay at home D, closing down channels, playing the boards and blocking shots and will be hoping to do more of the same into 16/17.
