Recap
The Direct Taxis Solihull Barons ended their 2021-22 season this weekend with a semi-final defeat to the Whitley Warriors in the Moralee play-off weekend at Leeds.
The Warriors built up an early game lead courtesy of Shaun Kippin on a bit of a break on six minutes. His speculative long range shot on six minutes only half-caught by Graham Laverick before the puck looped out of his glove and into the net for the opener. The Warriors then doubled down, Harry Harley firing home through traffic from the left hand point off of a face-off in the Barons end.
The Barons came out with renewed vigour in the second but it would be the Warriors who would score first as Thomas Fraser leapt on a loose puck in the Barons crease to tap home the Warriors third goal of the evening. The Barons would then give the travelling Solihull support something to cheer as James Smith followed up on a rebound from Callum Bowley shot to put the Hobs Moat side on the scoreboard. There would be no further scoring in the second and the sides would step out for the final period with the Warriors 3-1 to the good.
Hopes of a Barons comeback would be dealt an early blow in the third, as the puck was momentarily lost following a Harry Harley shot only to be spied by a quick responding Callum Queenan with a quick tap in for the Warriors fourth to seal the game and put the Warriors into the finals against the Sharks.
The Barons will now have a much deserved break from the ice but work has already started to ready the team for the 2022-23 season – keep following us through the Summer for updates as we have them.
