A Reflection from the Chair

A Reflection from the Chair

Hi Barons Fans

Now that the season in full flow I would like to reflect on how the games have gone, how the team is developing and disappointingly some aspects we could all be better at.

I was interested to see that in the predictions made by some commentators on social media (ie NIHL North Facebook page) the Barons would be languishing towards the bottom of the league and am glad to see that so far we are proving them wrong. With the loss of our head coach and some experienced players it was always going to be a challenge for Leepy to get the players to hit the ground running and with a couple of notable exceptions the team has fought hard and produced some excellent performances even when the result has not gone our way. We also seem to have been unlucky with injuries and player absences resulting in an unsettled roster which makes our results all the more encouraging and the best is yet to come from the team.

‘On a disappointing note I was saddened by the behaviour of some of our supporters at the end of the Warriors game on Sunday night, this type of behaviour creates negative press and can open up the club to sanctions from the EIHA. Personally I thought the game had been fast, exciting and very competitive with not much to separate the teams. Some of the key decisions may not have gone our way, had they done so the result could have been different, but at the end of the day neither team is responsible for how the officials see the game and just because we disagree with decisions made doesn’t mean we are right. With this in mind I was very disappointed to hear sections of the crowd booing the Whitley players as they skated round before leaving the ice after the MOM awards. May I please remind you all that however much we may disagree with the events that have occurred and decisions that have been made during the game we should always show respect to the opposition when the game is over and ask you show your appreciation positively as is customary in our sport.’

The Barons are back on the ice this Sunday when we play the Deeside Dragons for the first time since February 2018. The game should also mark the return of Dan Mulcahy so another night of high quality hockey is in store !

See you there ! #COYBARONS
