Telford NL Tigers : 5
Airport Placements Limited Solihull Barons : 5
The Airport Placements Limited Solihull Barons faced their first away tie of the Moralee Division ice hockey season and emerged with a point after a hard fought 60 minutes against local rivals the Telford Tigers.
The game started badly for the Barons with the Solihull side going down after less than five minutes as the Tigers Adam Brittle scored a short handed goal for the home side. By ten minutes the Barons were two down, Bradley Betteridge this time for Telford.
The start of the second mirrored that of the first as Brittle once more found the net for a short-handed Telford. This however would be cancelled out quickly by the Barons, Dale White ensuring the steep 3-0 deficit would last only a minute.
The remainder of the middle period would see the two sides trade a pair of goals each, Rich Slater and Joe Henry finding the net for Solihull keeping the Telford advantage to two goals. Some end of period fisticuffs would see agitating forwards Joe Henry and Bradley Betteridge clash, the Barons Henry earning his Gordie Howe hat-trick for a goal, assist and fight in a single game.
The final period would continue to see the sides closely matched but it would be the Barons who would find the net, Niklas Ottosson and Rich Slater pulling the scores even with less than five minutes to go. A penalty call on the Barons with under two minutes on the clock would see a nervous end to the game for the travelling support but the Barons would hold out for the draw.
The Barons now face the long trip north to Northumbria’s Whitley Bay for a clash with the Warriors on Sunday 18th September. The team returns to home ice on the 25th September when they take on the Deeside Dragons. Face-off 6:00pm.
