Recap

EDG Property Solihull Barons : 3
Hull Jets : 0

The EDG Property Solihull Barons notched up another home win with a 3-0 shut-out of the Hull Jets on Sunday evening in a high energy and very entertaining Moralee tie.

Phil Mulcahy on the boards (S Crampton)

The Barons were the first to slot the puck home with a goal just after six minutes – Filip Byfält coming off the bench to turn over the puck before feeding Max Soden whose shot from the blue line was tipped goalward by Matt Maurice. The remainder of the period would continue apace with the Barons edging the balance of play early on before the Jets began to exert more pressure as the period wore on. Despite good chances at each end of the ice neither squad could get the perfect final touch and the Barons would retain their single goal margin heading into the second.

Niklas celebrates (S Crampton)

The second period would continue to have opportunities present themselves to both sides, though the appreciative crowd would need to wait until late on for any further scoring. With two minutes of the period to go Niklas Ottosson would pick up the puck from Filip Byfält before threading the puck through the Hull defence and tapping in from short range for Solihull’s second goal of the evening.

Brandon Anderton (S Crampton)

With 9 minutes left on the clock the Barons looked like they had got their third only for it to be waved off – the puck deemed to have been kicked into the net. It would not be until the final two minutes until Solihull got their third, Brandon Anderton tapping in from some behind the net play by Dan Mulcahy. The action was not over however as Alex Kent, who had been playing the pantomime villain for Hull for much of the third period put in a heavy check into the boards which got the attention of Brandon Anderton resulting in the Hull number 22 coming off the worse.

Zak Brown smothers the puck (S Crampton)

The Barons are back on home ice this weekend, for a Saturday tie this time, as we welcome the Whitley Warriors to Hobs Moat for the first time this season. The Warriors made headlines over the Summer with the signing of UK hockey legend Tony Hand as head coach. Many people’s tips for Moralee title champions the Warriors currently sit third in the league and must be keen to turn their pre-season promise into results – the Barons should therefore not expect an easy ride.
