Recap

EDG Property Solihull Barons : 6
Deeside Dragons : 3

The EDG Property Solihull Barons returned to their strong home form set of results with a convincing win on Sunday over the Deeside Dragons in a result which saw the Barons consolidate second place in the league while the Dragons slipped down to fourth.

Not sure what is going on but Dani Haid appears alarmed while Aaron Moody seems to be quietly enjoying it (S Crampton)

The Barons opened the scoring after 7 minutes through a powerplay strike by Niklas Ottosson from the centre of the blue line after the puck was circulated to him from Richard Crowe and Alex Whyte. After 11 minutes the Dragons found Andy McKinney in the mirrored position to Ottosson with a goal being the same outcome to level things up. The game would continue to run end to end but there would be no further scoring in the first period.

Phil Mulcahy nets one of his three goals
( S Crampton)

Phil Mulcahy would put the Barons back up by one, a minute into the second, as a pass from Niklas Ottosson found an eager Mulcahy inches from the Dragons goal to give the final touch into the net. By 5 minutes in Mulcahy was finding the net once more as Max Soden fed him the puck in the Dragons zone giving Phil a chance to show his flair with a skate in and deke for the finish. Just before the half hour mark the Dragons pulled one goal back as McKinney once more tapped home from the far post beyond the committed Ben Lee. Within 5 minutes the Dragons had pulled level on the powerplay a rebound touched home by McKinney for his hat trick to set up a winner takes all final 20 minutes.

An assured performance from Ben Lee (S Crampton)

Into the third and after 5 minutes the Barons would score a peach of a solo goal, Jacob Race picking up the puck in neutral ice before evading the Deeside defence and then roofing the shot into the Dragons net. Within two minutes of this the Barons had extended their lead back to two as Matt Maurice swept the puck home from the right hand circle on the powerplay via a set-up from Mulcahy. The Barons would effectively seal the win with Phil Mulcahy’s hat trick, a shot which trickled into the corner of Dragons net beneath goalie Matt Croyle.

Jacob Race’s goal was top quality (S Crampton)

The Barons are back in action at Hobs Moat with a home tie against the Whitley Warriors on Sunday evening. The sides have met twice this year with the Barons coming out on top both times. Since then however the Warriors have brought in reinforcements including impact players Phillip Edgar and Dean Holland so for points the boy will need to be on top form to repeat the earlier wins. Face-off 5:30pm.
