Recap
After a long holiday season lay-off, the Zoo Accounting Solihull Barons got 2023 off to a good start on Saturday evening, recording an emphatic win away at Sheffield Scimitars.
The Scimitars were the first to make a mark as teenage call-up Charlie Davenport netted after three and a half minutes before the Barons brought things level within the minute, the pairing of Filip Byfält and Matt Maurice giving the latter the equaliser. By mid-period the Barons had pushed ahead with Dan Mulcahy finding the net after six-minutes. The remainder of the period would see Solihull pepper the net of the Scims’ Bandon Stones but with nothing managing to get through. With a late period powerplay to Sheffield, Isaac Tse seized the opportunity to level things up as the sides went into the break.
The Barons continued to dominate play in the middle twenty but it was not until the 28th minute that the Barons would regain their lead, Bailey Challans on the powerplay. As the period ticked down Byfält supported Maurice in finding the Barons fourth to give Solihull a comfortable 2 goal lead heading towards the final 20 minutes.
The final period saw the Barons push ahead and take the game well beyond the Scimitars. Goals by Maurice (2), Richard Slater, Jordan Stokes and Nikas Ottosson all went unanswered in a one-sided period.
The Barons have a busy weekend coming up with a home double header. On Saturday we play host to the Deeside Dragons, a side quickly catching up after two and a half seasons without a home rink and looking to build points. Face-off for this game is slightly later than normal at 6pm. On Sunday Widnes Wild head down to Hobs Moat and with the two teams sitting adjacent in the league and a win each apiece so far this season a close tie is on offer. We hope to see you all at both games ! #COYBARONS
