Recap
The TC Cars Solihull Barons rounded off a strong preseason with a convincing win over South Division 2 side the Haringey Huskies on Sunday evening despite still not running at full strength.
It was the Barons who were first on the scoresheet at the Huskies historic Alexandra Palace as Daniel Mulcahy and Adam Brittle on the penalty kill made the most of gaps on the ice for the opener after 10 minutes. By the end of the first twenty the home side had found the equaliser, James Hepburn with the final touch.
Despite a degree of indiscipline seeing them play short for a spell around the half hour mark, the middle twenty would see Solihull put the game beyond the Huskies with clinical finishing at one end of the ice coupled to strong goal tending from Daniel Brittle and then Sam Hewitt. Goals from Ruskin Hughes, Andy Whitehouse and Paul Stanley gave the Barons a 3 goal cushion by the period end.
The final period saw the Barons close down the game with a further goal from Ruskin Hughes and Solihull captain Josh Bruce also finding the net to give Solihull a comfortable 6-1 victory.
The Barons will be aware that while the preseason has gone well, sterner tests are not far off. The league this season looks incredibly tightly matched with predictions for most matches being no more certain than a coin toss and small margins in precision, fitness, luck and hunger for the win likely to be decisive.
Solihull open their league account with this Sunday’s league opener at home against the Billingham Stars. Face-off 5:30pm.
