Blackburn Hawks – Solihull Barons

The Solihull Barons got their 2022-23 Moralee  campaign underway with a hard earned 2 points with victory over the Blackburn Hawks on Sunday evening in a game which could have gone either way.

The first period saw the sides match each other shot for shot but sound goal keeping from Sam Hewitt for the Barons and the Hawks Ben Keddie together with pressing defences kept most of these opportunities unconverted. The only goal of the first period would go to the Barons Richard Slater, adding to his tally of 3rd in all time goals for Solihull.

The second period continued in much the same way, with end to end hockey and neither side able to make the breakthrough to put the game momentum firmly one way or the other. A mid-period goal by Richard Crowe would keep up the Solihull d-mans scoring streak and give the Barons a bit of a cushion heading to the third.

By the final twenty, the puck bounces began to reward the Hawks efforts. Goals from Devids Jurinenoks, Luke Watson and Dylan Harcourt all found the Barons net and for the first time in the evening, this gave the home side the lead of the game. With 8 minutes left on the clock, Barons man of the match, James Moeller netted to level things up once more. As the clock ticked down and overtime loomed it fell to Richard Slater from close in to tap home the winner and ensure the Barons would be taking the points back down the M6 with them.

The Barons are now away at the consistently strong Whitley Warriors on Sunday before playing host to the Sheffield Scimitars a week later at Hobs Moat – Sunday 25th September 5.30pm. See you there !!!
