Finnish forward adds quality to Barons attacking lines

The Solihull Barons have closed out the off-season with the signing of the Finnish forward Filip Byfält for 2022-23, a new name to the UK scene, who will bring added quality and experience to the Barons offence.

Having watched him in trials and training with the Barons coach Phil Lee was very impressed with the skillset demonstrated and so is delighted to be able to add Filip to the roster.

“I am excited to finally be able to announce that we have been able to secure the signing of Finnish forward Filip Byfält, for the forthcoming season.

Whilst in Finland, Filip played most recently for HC Morjens – (Division 3 – Finland) having played for them since 2012, with 2016/17 being his last playing season in Finland. During the four seasons Filip played with them he notched up 85 points across 60 games.

Since relocating to the UK, Filip has kept his hand in, playing recreational hockey in London, fitting this in around his work commitments.

Having trained with Filip myself, I was impressed with his speed, agility and playmaking skills. Filip has now trained with the team and has impressed us and I believe he will be an asset to the Barons.

I am pleased that I can give Filip this opportunity and I hope you will join me in offering a warm welcome to him, here at Solihull.

Welcome to the Barons Filip!

Filip was equally pleased to be given the opportunity to continue his hockey career at Solihull and show what he can do in front of the Solihull faithful.

“After a few years break from competitive ice hockey, I am very excited to be joining the Barons this season. Relocating from abroad to Birmingham, the Solihull rink quickly became one of my more visited places and all I have encountered so far is genuinely nice people with a big interest for the sport. I am happy to see how big ice hockey is in the Midlands, and I am looking forward to experiencing that up close this season. The atmosphere of the group shows clear signs that there are great expectations for the team.

We are sure our support will be delighted with the signing of Filip and will make him more than welcome every time he steps on to the Hobs Moat ice this season !
