Recap
Solway Sharks : 4
TC Cars Solihull Barons : 3
The TC Cars Solihull Barons dropped their first points of the season on Saturday evening, going down to an away loss at perennial league high flyers the Solway Sharks.
The first period featured no scoring until the 14th minute when Ewan Anderson found the net for the home side. The lead would however stand for less than a minute before Barons forward Phil Mulcahy levelled up with a solo effort to defeat Gary Russell in the Sharks net. A hook by Paul Stanley put the Barons on the penalty kill and the Sharks made the most of the extra space and the extra man with Lewis Houston netting for the Dumfries side on the 16th minute. Solihull were however able to level up in the final two minutes of the period with Daniel Harrison getting the Barons second.
The second period continued a similar and closely fought battle between the two sides, the Sharks however holding the balance of play and shots but being frustrated by an in form Daniel Brittle in the Barons net. While his form was strong, the volume of shots dictated at least one would go in, with Iain Bowie pushing the Sharks into the lead once more just short of the half hour mark. Solihull would once again peg the Sharks back as the top line of Adam Brittle, Tom Soar and Niklas Ottosson combined for the equaliser, Niklas with the final touch.
The final period had only a single goal and it was the winner, Lewis Houston with the strike and with the Sharks limiting the Barons shot count there was little Solihull could do to push the game into overtime.
Despite the loss however, the closeness of the scoreline, repeated up and down the league, so far points to a very competitive and entertaining season.
