Recap

Zoo Accounting Solihull Barons : 4
Widnes Wild : 3

The Zoo Accounting Solihull Barons and Widnes Wild battled their way through an exciting and feisty tie on Sunday evening with the Barons coming out top by the end of the sixty minutes.

Phil Mulcahy and Marcus Maynard keep the Wild D busy (S Crampton)

The first period would be scoreless, the Barons spending long spells in the Widnes end but unable to get the finish needed to defeat Miles Finney in the Wild net.  The period would however show some of the firey attitude marking much of the game when Marcus Maynard and Joe Greaves clashed after Phil Mulcahy was held after the play.

The middle period would see a shift in play towards goal scoring as the Barons finally broke the deadlock, Rich Slater with a short range poke home in a goalmouth scramble on the 22nd minute. The Wild would counter and Danny Haid found the net on a delayed penalty after 31 minutes before the visitors got their second four minutes later, Haid again. The Wild lead was short lived, Danny Mulcahy getting the Barons back level a few seconds later. Richard Hagger continued the see-sawing of the score as his shot squeezed between the knees of a butterflying Sam Hewitt to push the Wild back into the lead on the thirty seventh minute before this was immediately negated by Phil Mulcahy sweeping the puck into the top of the Wild net. The Barons however ensured they got the  period and ultimately the game win with their fourth in the final minute of the period thanks to a Brandon Anderton effort, a goal also marking Andrew Whitehouse’s 200th point in his 300th Barons game.

A goal and an assist for Richard Slater (S Crampton)

The period would end with an after the buzzer disagreement as Dave Rogers and Joe Greaves clashed with both players being penalised for their efforts.
