Solihull Barons vs Widnes Wild

Recap

The Solihull Barons showed plenty of fight and character on Sunday evening, battling back from an early deficit before narrowly falling 6–5 in overtime against Widnes Wild at Planet Ice Solihull.

It was a difficult opening period for the Barons, with Widnes taking advantage of their opportunities to establish a 3–1 lead after 20 minutes. Ethan Salter provided Solihull’s response, getting the Barons on the board and giving the home side something to build on.

And build on it they did.

The Barons came out strongly in the second period and began to turn the game around. Goals from Henry Adams and Ethan Salter brought Solihull right back into the contest, with the home side heading into the second intermission level at 3–3.

With everything to play for, the third period developed into a tense battle.

Salter completed an excellent hat-trick, while captain Niklas Ottosson also found the net as the Barons continued to push for the victory. At the end of 60 minutes, the sides could not be separated at 5–5 and the game headed into overtime.

The additional point ultimately went to Widnes after they found the decisive sixth goal, but there were plenty of positives for the Barons to take from the night.

After trailing 3–1 at the first intermission, Solihull fought their way back into the game, showed resilience when the pressure was on and ensured they came away with a well-earned league point.

A particularly strong night for Ethan Salter, whose hat-trick led the Barons offence, while Adams and Ottosson completed the scoring.
