Recap

EDG Property Solihull Barons : 8
Sheffield Scimitars : 1

The EDG Property Solihull Barons won convincingly in a one-sided contest on Sunday evening against a very depleted Sheffield Scimitars side which played much of the game with less than 2 lines. The win however pushes the Barons to second in the league, 2 points behind leaders – and next week’s opposition – the Billingham Stars.

James Moeller goes close (S Crampton)

The Barons would strike first, Richard Crowe slotting the puck home following support from Phil Mulcahy and Niklas Ottosson a few seconds shy of the five minute mark. With six minutes remaining on the first period Brandon Anderton doubled the Barons lead steering the puck around an already committed Hayden Oates for Solihull’s second. Within the minute Solihull were onto their third goal as Billy Crofts fired home from range, the shot piniging the post on the way into the netting. By period end Solihull had opened up a lead of 4 as Niklas Ottosson took his time on a powerplay to pick his spot and blast home from the blue line.

Brandon Anderton (S Crampton)

Niklas Ottosson added to the Barons total and is own personal tally with a clever little play 8 minutes into the second. With the puck almost entirely in the Sheffield end it was perhaps surprising that there would be no further scoring until 2 minutes from the end when Phil Mulcahy picked up his own short range rebound to take Barons total for the first 40 minutes to six.

Another goal for Richard Crowe (S Crampton)

The final period would see the Barons make the most of the scoreline and the short Sheffield bench to spread the ice-time over more of the full roster than might be the case normally and bring Ben Lee into net for the last twenty. With six minutes to go Phil Mulcahy tapped the puck home for the Barons seventh goal, though this was quickly countered by Joshua Rawsthorne for the Scimitars, some reward for the exhausted visitors. The Barons would round of the scoring with Niklas Ottosson netting once more on 57 minutes to give the Barons a comfortable win over the Sheffield.

Sam Chandler breaks from the Barons end (S Crampton)

The Barons have another busy weekend. On Saturday they head to Teeside to take on the Billingham Stars before returning to Hobs Moat on Sunday where they will face the Hull Jets. The two sides have only just met this past weekend with the Barons emerging as 6-3 winners at Hull on Saturday so they will be hoping to repeat the win and continue to press at the top of the Moralee table.
