Recap
EDG Property Solihull Barons : 6
Nottingham Lions : 1
In front of a large, 400+ home crowd, the EDG Property Solihull Barons marked their return to Hobs Moat ice on Sunday evening with an emphatic win over the Nottingham Lions in a result which helps maintain the Barons position in the very tight Moralee title chasing pack.
The Barons were one up within a little over a minute of the game start following a powerplay chance which saw Niklas Ottosson fire home from the centre of the blueline into the top left of the Lions net. The play would continue to flow end to end for the next ten minutes before Toby Fisher levelled for the visitors, making use of traffic in the goal area to to send the puck through Graham Laverick’s legs and into the home goal. By period end the Barons had edged ahead once more as an isolated Dani Haid on the left wing floated a speculative shot toward the Lions goal which slipped through the grasp of Lions goalie Luca Sheldon for Solihull’s second.
It took until the thirty second minute for further scoring and once more Niklas Ottosson would be the scorer in some sublime hockey as he stole the puck from the attacking Lions in the Barons end before racing up the ice before outfoxing Sheldon for Solihull goal number 3. With no further scoring the sides headed to the interval with Barons 3-1 up.
Having survived a 5 minute penalty kill, following a call on Dan Mulcahy, the Barons took the game beyond the Lions part way through the third with a pair of quick goals, the first a wraparound from Niklas Ottosson for his hat trick and the second via Charlie Webb from short range. Richard Crowe would round-off the Solihull scoring for the evening with a well taken shot from the left hand circle off of a Niklas Ottosson feed, giving the Barons a convincing win.
Next weekend the Barons have two games on. On Saturday they travel to Hull before the visit of the Sheffield Scimitars to Hobs Moat on Sunday. The Scimitars sit close to the foot of the table but a win over the Whitley Warriors two weeks ago shows they are more than up for causing an upset if not shown sufficient respect. Face-off 5.30pm, Sunday 19th November.
Late Start
We apologise for the slightly late start to the game. This was to allow spectators to enter ahead of the game following some issues in the ticket office slowing entry.
