In a thrilling Moralee Division clash on Sunday, the Nottingham Lions faced off against the EDG Property Solihull Barons in a high-scoring contest that would keep fans at the edge of their seats. The final score would read 6-7 in favour of the visiting Solihull Barons in a game they might have hoped to have won at a canter but the game’s excitement and drama unfolded over three intense periods and an overtime showdown.

The Nottingham Lions got off to a roaring start in the opening period. Just 1 minute and 33 seconds into the game, James Mather capitalized on a scoring opportunity, assisted by Tristan Grimshaw and Jack Crowston. Tristan Grimshaw himself added another goal for the Lions at 3 minutes and 27 seconds.

However, the Solihull Barons weren’t going down without a fight. At the 11-minute mark, Daniel Mulcahy found the back of the net, with assists from Niklas Ottosson and Phil Mulcahy. Michael Berehowskyj extended the Lions’ lead, but the Barons clawed back with a goal from Charlie Webb, assisted by Bailey Challans. Richard Crowe then scored for the Barons, closing the gap to 4-3 by the end of the first period.

The second period continued to see the scoring momentum shift between the teams. The Lions extended their lead to 5-3 with a power play goal at 30 minutes and 27 seconds, leaving the Barons to play catch-up. The Barons, however, responded with a power play goal of their own, as Richard Crowe found the back of the net at 33 minutes and 54 seconds, assisted by Daniel Mulcahy and Niklas Ottosson.

The Lions weren’t done yet, as Zak Yokohama added another goal to their tally at 34 minutes and 54 seconds, putting them ahead 6-4 as the period ended.

The third period would prove to be a rollercoaster ride. The Solihull Barons mounted a comeback, with goals from Bailey Challans and Niklas Ottosson, tying the game at 6-6.

With the score locked at 6-6, the game headed into overtime. It was the Solihull Barons who struck the decisive blow in the final minute of overtime. Daniel Mulcahy raced down the left wing, cut in, and outmaneuvered the Nottingham goalie, tapping the puck backhanded into the Lions’ back door. This stunning play secured a thrilling 7-6 victory for the Solihull Barons and left the Lions and their fans with a sense of what might have been.
