Recap
The EDG Property Solihull Barons will be spending this week moving on from their first on-ice defeat of the 2023-24 season following a disappointing result on Sunday evening in North Wales against the Deeside Dragons. Prior to this weekend the Dragons had been winless and struggled with a limited roster in their early season ties, however this weekend it was the Barons turn to field a short bench with the likes of Dan Mulcahy, Jordan Stokes and Matt Maurice missing the trip North.
The Barons would get off to a slow start as they shook off their bus legs and by the end of the first period the Deesiders had netted twice without answer as Chris Jones and Ross Kennedy both found their way through the Barons defences to slot the puck home.
The Barons would get more into the game in the second period, pegging the Dragons down to only five shots over the twenty minutes. Solihull would also edge themselves back into contention with a short-handed Niklas Ottosson goal in the 36th minute to cut their deficit to only one.
This was as good as it would get for the Barons however as Deeside’s Alex Parry would restore the home side’s two goal margin within a minute of the third period restart and by the 48th minute, former Baron, Brodie Jesson effectively sealed the win for the Dragons with their fourth goal of the night.
The Barons are back on home ice this Sunday evening when they welcome league new boys the Hull Jets to Hobs Moat. The Jets have arguably been this season’s big surprise package. Despite moving up from the Laidler, the squad has had big wins over top opposition including both Billingham and Whitley so the Barons will need to be on top form to bring home the points. Key players on the Hull side include outstanding teenager Declan Jones and the highly experienced Richard Haggar while former Telford netminder Zack Brown has been a wall in goal so far this season for the Yorkshire side.
Join us then for another quality Moralee tie on Sunday evening and lets get the win for Solihull!!! –
Face-off 5.30pm, Planet Ice Solihull
Barons Man of the Match, Graham Laverick
Dragons Man of the Match, Matt Croyle
