Alex Whyte is big signing for Barons

The EDG Property Solihull Barons have made a bold statement of intent with the signing of Alex Whyte, captain of South1 side the Milton Keynes Thunder. Whyte brings significant on-ice and leadership skills to the Barons and will be a key asset in our 2023/24 campaign.

Whyte is a 26 year old utility player with an ability to play as both forward and D. Beginning his involvement with hockey through the the junior system at Peterborough he moved over to Milton Keynes on becoming a full-time senior player, holding the captaincy for the last three seasons.

For Whyte the move to the Barons and the Northern set-up offers some new opportunities to prove himself in a different environment and to a new set of opponents:

“I’m really pleased to be joining the Barons for this season. Initially I wasn’t sure about playing at all this season, but when Leepy reached out to me I decided I am not quite there yet, and I definitely still have more to offer.  I am looking forward to competing in the Northern league for the first time, fighting for the top spot and having some fun along the way.  I have heard both fans and the atmosphere at home are both awesome, so I cannot wait to get started and I will see you in September!

For head coach Phil Lee, Alex Whyte is a big signing who has potential to make significant impact in the league:

“Alex has been on my radar for a while, so I was understandably pleased when he agreed to make the move to the Barons.  I know our Barons fans will be excited to see his “workhorse” approach to his game, and with him being a utility player, he will be invaluable to the team with his offence and defence abilities. Alex I am sure will fit in well and will bring his leadership and work ethic to the team.  I would like to welcome Alex to the Solihull Barons.

We are sure you will all join with us in welcoming Alex to the Barons and look forward to seeing him proudly wearing the Fleur-de-Lis!
