Moeller and Hayward return for another year at Solihull

The Solihull Barons continue to grow the 2022-23 roster with re-signing of both James Moeller and Andy Hayward, a pair of players capable of contributing at both ends of the ice.

In Moeller the Barons have a versatile player capable of use as both a forward and in D giving Phil Lee flexibility in terms of lines over the course of the season.

“I am pleased to have Moeller returning for next season. His energy and enthusiasm will be beneficial to the team. Hopefully this year we can utilise both his forward and defensive skills to good effect, whilst building on his great attitude and work rate and furthering his development. Welcome back Moeller!

James Moeller (S Crampton)

For James, the chance to play a part of the Barons under the massively respected Phil Lee was a big bonus encouraging his return to Hobs Moat for another year.

“I’m really excited to be returning to the Barons for the forthcoming season!
When Phil called and said he was going to be coaching this season and would I like to return it was an easy decision. I can’t wait to work with Leepy and learn from one of the best! Finishing last season strongly and the momentum that we carried through the last phases was a great team effort, one that I’m sure under Leepy’s guidance we can build on and have a successful year.

In Andy Hayward the Barons have further adaptability and while the focus will be on playing a solid protective D, offensive opportunities may also be on the cards.  Not one to be bullied by opposing forwards, Hayward adds an edge and tenacity to his play in the Barons own end, a point not lost on Phil Lee.

“Andy is an up-and-coming defenceman with the potential to be a great defensive D-man. Andy has the ability to play forward which I may be calling on him to do so this year. Andy’s work rate and gritty attitude will go a long way to strengthening his position within the team. Look forward to helping your development Andy.

Sam Hewitt and Andy Hayward hold the line (S Crampton)

Again for Hayward, the chance to return to the Barons and push on from last year both as an individual and as part of a team was one not to be refused :

‘When Leepy phoned me to talk about the season I was very excited having seen him play for the Barons and been told by other players what a great coach he is it was easy for me to say yes to coming back. I really enjoyed last season and can’t wait for the next to start with our new team and coaching staff I hope all the fans are ready for a great season !!
