Bellerby "thrilled" after Barons fight-back
by Matt Johnson

Darren Bellerby has praised the fighting spirit of his players after they came back from three goals down to beat Nottingham Lions 4-3 in an epic encounter at Hobs Moat Road.

He declared that the manner of the victory, and the confidence that they showed in the latter stages, was especially pleasing as he now feels the squad have the belief that they can compete in the division.

“It’s a lovely feeling to bounce back.” He said.

“It’s good morale for the lads and adds to the belief that they can compete in this league.

As the momentum swings towards them, the Barons celebrate
the equalizer as Lions heads start to drop.

"It's a lovely feeling to bounce back"

“At this stage we’re never going to go out and smash the top teams, but we know we can certainly compete with the bottom teams like the Telfords, the Blackburns and the Nottinghams.

For a while it looked like penalties and ill-discipline would cost the Barons once again when they went three powerplay goals behind, but Bellerby insisted that it will be something that he’ll address. But he paid great credit to the disciplined performance in the third period and has told the squad he wants more of the same.

Darren has also paid special tribute to the crowd for their impact on the game and pinpointed their noise and energy as a key factor in the team’s resurgence.

He added: “We conceded three powerplay goals again, it’s the same old story and it looked like it would really hurt us.

“But we came back from that as a better team and cut the penalties right down in the third which helped us no doubt. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

“The fans love a game like this. They don’t want to see us like last season trouncing teams 10-0, they want to see us in a dog fight and the guys stepped up to it tonight so I’m pleased for the fans and I’m pleased for myself.

“The crowd were great, they really helped the lads. With a game like tonight I think they got their value for money.

“I don’t know what it is, but sometimes something happens in a game that just turns the game. A goal will go in and then there is a bit more belief.

“I was thrilled to get the win, especially after last night at Coventry. We were licking our wounds a bit, but we felt we were better than the score line.

“We knew we had to come back tonight and try to restore a bit of pride and luckily we did.

“At 3-0 down you think you’re done and dusted but these boys just don’t know when they’re beat, and tonight they’ve proved it by coming back to win.”
