Barons keen to build momentum against Flyers

The Sheldon Jewellery Centre Solihull Barons take on the Fylde Flyers this weekend at the Hobs Moat rink, keen to ensure that no-one should be in any doubt as to the Barons title intentions.

With the Barons in Division 1 last season, Sunday night will be the first visit of Fylde to the Solihull rink and its unique atmosphere.

While the Flyers as a side may be new to Solihull, many of their players will be no strangers to the Hobs Moat Ice having previously laced up their skates for the likes of the Lancashire Raptors or Flintshire Freeze.

Flyers assistant captain, Bobby Caunce falls into this category having played for both these sides over the years. With an average of better than a goal and an assist for each of last seasons games and having already pulled in 4 points in the Nottingham game, the Blackpool native will be one for the Barons defence to keep an eye on.

While the Barons will be keen to build home ice momentum ahead of the visit of title rivals the Deeside Dragons on the 7th of October recent results have shown that the league is not nearly as clear cut as was first thought, following Deeside's shock defeat to the Sheffield Spartans two weeks ago.

The Barons won convincingly last time out against the Blackburn Eagles will it be the same against Fylde ?

Barons coach Darren Bellerby will therefore be working hard with the Solihull players this week to ensure no complacency creeps into the side.

Sunday's game should be a highly competitive tie and will be a good chance for the Barons to show their quality against the ambitious Fylde.

The game faces off at 6pm in the Solihull Ice Rink.

Be there and see if the boys can bag their second Lancashire Bird in as many weeks !

Congratulations

The Fylde Flyers are a new side to British Ice Hockey following the opening of a rink in Cleveleys, just North of Blackpool a little over a year ago.

2011-12 was their debut season in ENL North 2 as it was then and for a new team they acquitted themselves well with wins over most of the mid and low ranking teams of the division, to end the season sixth overall.

This will be the Flyers third game of the season. They are scheduled to face the Blackburn Eagles at their own rink on Saturday, and have already met Nottingham's Lions at the start of September.

On their home ice against the Lions, a "feisty" Flyers side pulled out a 2-0 lead in the first period, before being overhauled to end with a 4-7 loss, and a total of 44 minutes of penalties.
