The Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons endured a difficult weekend with a pair of away losses and while they still retain their third place in the Moralee division, rivals the Solway Sharks and Billingham Stars edged closer to the play-off spots.

On Saturday the Barons took the long trip North to take on the Solway Sharks from the Scottish Border town of Dumfries. The two sides had met a few weeks previously at Solihull in what had been a penalty riddled fixture with the Barons coming out on top.

The result would again go with the home side but the focus this time was on disciplined performances and high scoring. It would be the Barons who would find the net first, thanks to Joe Henry after little more than a minute. From then on it would be Solway who took the initiative scoring four goals without answer to leave the Scots with a three goal lead soon after the start of the second period.

For the remainder of the game the two sides would trade goals but the Barons could never get within a couple of goals of Solway and the Sharks took home the points.

On Sunday the side made the trip to the North East and the Whitley Warriors. In the run-up to this game much had been made of the rivalry between the Barons Perry Doyle and the Warriors Andre Payette and these two would colour much of the first half of the game clashing three times before the officials’ patience ran out and the pair were sent for early showers.

The Barons would however struggle to get the puck in the Warriors net and by the middle of the game were down 6-1 to the home side – Richard Crowe with the Barons only goal to that point. Injury to Whitley player Scott Cooper resulted in a break in play and when the game was restarted the Barons pulled goals back courtesy of Tomas Janak and Niklas Ottosson. Thoughts of a comeback were however quickly extinguished as the Warriors again eased out the margin with a couple more goals. A late goal by Josh Bruce helped produce a more respectable scoreline but no points for the Barons.
