The Barons continued their pre-seaon over the past weekend with a pair of ties against Laidler (Division 2) favourites the Widnes Wild which would see the honours going the way of the home side in each case.

On Saturday the Barons made the trip North to Cheshire to face a highly competitive Widnes Wild. While the Barons opened the scoring courtesy of Andy Whitehouse, the Wild would pull things back and eventually lead Solihull 2-1 going into the final period. The game would however end on a downward note after Barons forward Niklas Ottosson took a nasty hit to the head which would see an ambulance called and the Sweded then take a trip to the local A and E. The resulting delay forced the game to be called short with fifteen minutes still left to play, marking the Barons first defeat in over 60 games.

Sunday saw the two sides meet once more but this time on Solihull ice and it would be the visitors who would score first. Wild player coach Scott McKenzie made the most of a break through the Barons defence to leave Shaun Dippnall the task of finding space in the Barons net and get Widnes on the scoreboard within the first four minutes. Two minutes later and Josh Bruce levelled things for Solihull as the Barons top line moved the puck over the front of goal until an opening appeared. The game would continue on a highly competitive basis for the remainder of the period and with two minutes left Tom Soar broke the deadlock for the Barons - a powerplay shot from square in front of goal, rocketing into the roof of the Wild net.

The Barons would open the second period the brighter of the two sides with goals by Tomas Janak and Joe Henry before Shaun Dippnall got his and the Wild's second goal of the evening, converting a rebound off of Baron netminder, Steve Lickman's pads. The period would end with a further goal for each side, Joe Henry getting the Barons fifth.

The final period would see the Barons get two further goals, Ryan Selwood and Josh Bruce each finding the net. The Wild however played a strong finish to get within a goal of the Barons with a minute to go but Solihull hung on for the win.

The Barons conclude their pre-season on Sunday with the visit of The Telford NL Tigers to Hobs Moat. The last time these two sides met was in Last season's play-off final when the Barons came from behind to clinch the title with four seconds to spare. With the sides scheduled to meet four times in the upcoming season the game should provide some good pointers toward each side's readiness for the season ahead. Face-off : 6:00pm.

NEXT HOME GAME
THIS SUNDAY !!!

The Barons welcome the Telford NL Tigers to Hobs Moat for their final preseason tie.

The Tigers, like the Barons, are among the new boys to the Moralee having been promoted at the end of last season.

Jason Parry's men will be keen to put on a good show having lost out to the Barons in last year's playoffs and with the likes of veteran and ex-Baron Karol Jets, points machine James Smith, gritty youngster Brad Betteridge and quality netminder Denis Bell they have the tools to make an impact so the Barons will need to step up for a positive response.

Make it loud and ensure the Barons have that extra man on the ice !
