Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons : 7
Widnes Wild : 1

The Barons emerged with all four points after a hard fought, two game, away and home weekend against the Widnes Wild.

On Saturday the Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons travelled north to Cheshire and brought home two points from a closely fought tie against the Wild, a flurry of five Barons goals in as many minutes in the middle of the second period, including a Joe Henry hat trick giving the win to the Barons. Bar this spell however the Wild were good value and promised much for the return fixture at Solihull on Sunday night.

Sunday at the Solihull rink opened brightly for the Barons as Niklas Ottosson toured the Widnes end  looking for the opening before teeing up Tom Soar for the Barons first goal of the night after just two minutes. The same pair would combine again just after the six minute mark, this time Soar finding a way for the puck to go under the Widnes keeper Nicole Jackson.

The Barons would go three to the good by the middle of the period, Kieran Papps tapping in from inches out as a Solihull powerplay pressured the Wild defences. The Wild kept things tight however with a powerplay effort of their own, Filip Supa finding the net with five minutes of the period still to go.

The second period would see considerable Barons pressure on the Widnes net but with little reward. Two minutes into the period Edward Eaton would get the only goal of the middle twenty, as a Barons breakaway appeared to be saved by Jackson in the Widnes net only for Eaton to bundle the partly controlled puck over the line.

The Barons would further extend their lead as the Soar - Eaton - Ottosson again showed their class, with the former finding the net for the third time of the night with only 19 seconds on the clock from the puck drop. Soar was unstoppable on Sunday night and added his fourth and the Barons sixth of the evening on 45 minutes.

Hat-trick hero from the previous evening Joe Henry finally got his line on the scoreboard with a close range shot mid-period. The Barons would continue to threaten but with a series of minor penalties for both sides in the final ten minutes of the game, the score line stayed as it was until the buzzer.

After a busy weekend the Barons have next week off before they return for another two game weekend. On Saturday 31st January they face Bradford, who will be buoyed up having picked up their first points of the season this weekend. Solihull return to home ice on Sunday 1st February for   an A45 Derby against big local rivals the Coventry Blaze. Face-off : 6pm.
