The Barons concluded their preseason with a disappointing defeat on Sunday evening to Midland rivals the Telford Tigers.

The first period saw both the Tigers and Barons having their share of opportunities but in reality neither side was able to develop any real spells of pressure or rhythm, with the bulk of the period spent in stick clashing battles either side of the blue lines. The deadlock was broken in the sixteenth minute by Solihull's Joe Henry being picked out on central ice by Richard Crowe. Henry collected the puck, rounded the Tigers defence and slotted the rubber home for the only scoring of the period.

The second period saw the Tigers bring themselves even within only a couple of minutes, Adam Taylor firing home from the right hand circle. By mid-period the Tigers seized their opportunity as the Barons went down to three men after a couple of soft penalties called within a minute of each other. While the first of these was killed off, the Tigers exploited the chaos around the goalmouth to take the lead courtesy of Callum Griffin. This would give them a lead they would hold going into the final twenty minutes.

Five minutes into the final period and the Tigers would extend their lead further as a Ben Washburn    shot rattled off the underside of the crossbar - initially not awarded, discussion between the officials saw it given and the Barons went two goals down. Two minutes later and the Tigers would further extend their lead, Callum Bowley doing the damage this time to give a 4-1 scoreline in favour of Telford.

With the preseason over the Barons must now look ahead to the league campaign proper starting this Sunday against the Whitley Warriors. The Warriors are among the most historic names in UK hockey and bring with them a reputation for consistently turning out tough but highly skilled sides. Over the past season Whitley have boosted their squad with Premier League veterans Andre Payette and David Longstaff who together with a roster of talented regulars should ensure an explosive start to the season in a game already tipped to be among the year's highlights. Face-off : 6:00pm.

The Barons conclude their pre-season on Sunday with the visit of The Telford NL Tigers to Hobs Moat. The last time these two sides met was in Last season's play-off final when the Barons came from behind to clinch the title with four seconds to spare. With the sides scheduled to meet four times in the upcoming season the game should provide some good pointers toward each side's readiness for the season ahead. Face-off : 6:00pm.

NEXT HOME GAME
THIS SUNDAY !!!

The Barons open their 2015/16 Moralee campaign this Sunday against the Whitley Warriors.

The Warriors had a somewhat poor 2014-15 season finishing in an uncharacteristic sixth place in last year's Moralee.

This season, while retaining the bulk of their squad the Warriors signalled their intent to shake things up with the introduction of veterans Andre Payette and David Longstaff.

In import player coach Payette the Warriors have a rough tough individual who has had a long career at all levels in UK hockey.

In Longstaff, the Warriors have brought home one of their own after a career which has seen him ice for the Sheffield Steelers and Guildford Flames in the UK together with spells in Sweden and Switzerland.

The Barons are coming off a slightly mixed preseason but will be determined to get the crowd going in what should be a hard battling opener.

Make it loud and ensure the Barons have that extra man on the ice !
