Sutton Sting : 4
Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons : 2

The Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons made their first visit of the season to Ice Sheffield, to take on the Sutton Sting, one of the three clubs based at the venue but would come away without picking up any of the points.

With around half a dozen of the Barons regular squad injured or unavailable it was a somewhat makeshift team, bolstered by guest players from the Widnes Wild that stepped onto the ice to face the Sting for the first time since 2010/11.

Within ten minutes the Barons would be two goals down as the Sting exploited the opportunities granted to them, John Ross and Vjaleslavs Molvko putting the puck in the net for the Sting. The Barons continued to work hard through the remainder of the period but would be met by stubborn netminding from the Sting goalie, Dimitri Zimozdra.

By midway through the second period the Barons pressure was rewarded with a goal for Tomas Janak, though this would be quickly countered by Sutton's Carol Ashton to restore the home sides two goal advantage.

The final period would see a goal apiece for the two sides, Barons guest player Geoff Wigglesworth scoring for Solihull. With the puck remaining out of either net for the remainder of the game, the Barons, despite working hard for the full 60 minutes, headed back down the road on the wrong end of a 4-2 loss.

The Barons are on home ice this Sunday when they welcome the Sheffield Senators in a game which the Solihull side will probably start as favourites, Face-off 6:00pm.
