Wednesday evening might not have brought the Barons a win but that wasn't important.
For the first time in many years a top division senior team in the form of the EIHL Sheffield Steelers took to the ice at Hobs Moat and in doing so helped raise well over £5000 for Rob Eley's testimonial 19 for 19 campaign.
The game itself highlighted the skills of the steelers with their multinational roster of fully pro players many of whom have extensive careers histories in NHL, AHL, ECHL and NCAA.
The first period very much showed the gulf in experience between the two sides with the Steelers racing to a seven goal advantage.
By the second period the Barons got a bit of a sweat on and started to play competitive hockey, while the final period was very much played for fun by all the men on the ice whether they were wearing red and white, orange or stripes.
A highly enjoyable and successful night with a lot of thanks from Rob, the Barons and 19 for 19 to the Steelers, head coach Paul Thompson, event sponsors, the Window Centre, ACE cleaning and Silverblades - Solihull Ice Rink and of course all the supporters who turned out .
