The Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons had yet another positive weekend with a pair of strong performances against the league's early pacesetter the Sheffield Spartans.

On Saturday the Barons travelled to Ice Sheffield to take on the third placed Spartans. After a closely fought first period which saw the sides emerge with a pair of goals each, the Barons gradually began to exert themselves on Sheffield's big ice pad.

Within the first 12 minutes of the second period, five further goals would be scored by the Barons without response from the Spartans - Tom Soar and Niklas Ottosson among the scorers for Solihull.

While the Spartans would pull a goal back, the game would not last much longer before being called-off. An incident between the Spartans and the referee in the 38th minute, saw the sides sent to the dressing rooms early while stock was taken of the situation however the game was finally abandoned with no further play.

On Sunday the two sides resumed battle, this time in Solihull and it would be the home side who would open the scoring, Ed Eaton finding a gap behind the Sheffield keeper after four minutes. Sheffield countered and by 13 minutes the sides were level again. Towards the end of the period the Barons made the most of simultaneous penalties on the Steelers to get two more goals. First Richard Crowe with a shot from the right hand point position, quickly followed by a similarly long ranged shot from Tomas Janak which ricocheted through a crowded crease and into the Spartans net.

The Solihull scoring streak continued as the sides emerged for the second period with Josh Bruce, Ed Eaton and Perry Doyle all putting the puck through the pipework in the first ten minutes of the period, with Will Barron netting for the visitors.

The final period would see the Barons into double figures; Tom Soar, Perry Doyle, Tomas Janak and Matt Maurice all finding the net and while Elliot Knell gave the visitors little consolation with a single goal.

The Barons welcome local rivals the Telford Tigers to Solihull on Sunday. The Tigers have shown themselves to be one of the challengers at the top end of the Moralee division but with the Barons now hitting good form an exciting game is promised. Face-off : 6:00 pm.
