Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons : 5
Solway Sharks  : 4

On Sunday evening the Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons secured their first win and first points of 2015-16 with a narrow and hard fought victory over Dumfries side the Solway Sharks.

It was though the visitors who were first to make their mark, Steven Balmer finding the Solihull net after only two and a half minutes. By twelve minutes the Sharks had put the puck between the posts for a second time. Stuart Kerr fired a shot squarely at Barons goalie Josh Nicholls whose parry of the shot only served to loop the puck over his head and into the twine to double the Scottish side's lead.

The Barons however would battle back to draw level by the period end. Towards the 16th minute Edward Eaton floated a shot in from the left hand point position and past a screened Kieran Hobbins in the Sharks net. Four minutes later and Eaton would give the Barons their second goal of the evening with a precisely taken shot, this time from the right hand circle.

Two minutes into the second period and the Barons took the lead for the first time of the evening. A hard skate up the ice by Richard Crowe was saved by the Solway keeper only for Erik Bakalar, to force the puck over the goal line to get the Barons third goal of the night. Ten minutes later and the Barons extended their lead to two goals, Tom Soar finding a gap behind the Solway keepers left knee and the post. By the period end however things would be tied up as Duncan Spiers and Struan Tonner took the visitors tally to 4.

The final period would see only one more goal and it would be a Tom Soar effort midway through the period. A tense final ten minutes kept the large crowd on the edge of their seats as the Barons closed the game down for their first win of the 2015-16 season.

The Barons next tie is away this Saturday to Sutton Sting, while the following weekend, Sunday 11th September, sees another of the Sheffield based sides, the Senators make the trip to Hobs Moat. Face-off 6:00pm.
