Last Minute Barons edge out Senators

Sheffield Senators : 2
Motor Nations Solihull Barons : 3

The Barons left it late on Sunday afternoon as Eddie Eaton found the net with less than 15 seconds on the clock to bring the two points back home to Solihull after a closely fought battle in Sheffield.

The Barons travelled North knowing that a convincing home ice win against the Senators earlier in the season would count for nothing, against a Sheffield side who are a different side in their own rink.

The first period was evenly matched as both sides took time to take the measure of the opposition and the home rink advantage saw the Senators take the lead just before the ten minute mark, Joel Aheran doing the business.

The Barons continued to push on and the efforts were rewarded as Dave Rogers found a way past Mark Hartley in the Senators goal to bring things level two minutes before the period end.

The second period saw the Barons clearly the more attack minded of the two sides, out shooting the Senators 13 to 4. It was this positive play that saw Solihull take the lead for the first time in the match, Ryan Selwood finding a way through the Sheffield defence on a power play just after the half hour mark. Barons efforts to extend the lead in the remainder of the period were continually thwarted and it was with this narrow lead that Solihull took to the ice for the final period.

Tension boiled over midway through the third as the Barons Joe Henry and Sheffield’s John-Henry Walker tussled giving each four minutes in the penalty box. The home side were not out of it however and it was Sheffield’s Josh Wheway who brought things level for the home side, setting up a tense final ten minutes., both sides wanting the two points but keen not to skate away with nothing.

With the final minute of play being announced and the seconds counting down  the Barons Eddie Eaton made the most of his last chance of the game to put the puck beyond Hartley to secure full points for the visitors.

The Barons are back on home ice this weekend for what will be a colossal game against league and local rivals the Coventry Blaze. Face-off : Sunday 10th November at 6:30pm.

Barons goals : Rogers, Selwood, Eaton
Barons assists : Henry (2), Eley, Whitehouse, Doyle, Selwood

Barons MOM : Connor Hubbuck

Next Home Game

This Sunday the Barons welcome the Coventry NL Blaze to Hobs Moat in what will be a high stakes game for both sides.

The two sides met earlier this season at Coventry's Skydome Arena in a highly entertaining game which the Barons edged with the odd goal in nine much to the delight of the large travelling support.

Since then, Coventry have strung together a strong set of results and the Barons will need to be on top form to ensure a positive result.

West Midlands Derbys have always had an edge and with the added spice of player movements between both sides coupled to the battle for the points, this will not be one to miss.

Make sure you make it to the rink to support the Barons, make it loud and ensure they have that extra man on the ice !
