Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons :  8
Sheffield Senators : 0

Sundays visitors to Solihull Ice Rink to take on the Lookers of Yardley Barons were familiar faces the Sheffield Senators who came up from the Laidler division with the Barons. With Solihull starting to approach full strength, most notably with the welcome return from injury of Joe Henry the Barons set out with a plan to take full points from the game.

It would be the Barons third line who would open the scoring just before three minutes were on the clock as a close in Rob Eley shot was parried to Charlie Hammerton who put the puck the scoring side of the red line. The remainder of the period would remain scoreless despite opportunities for both sides and with solid Senators defence the Barons forwards were left frustrated in their attempts to extend their lead.

These frustrations would be quickly eased as the second period faced-off, Josh Bruce getting a goal two minutes in. Five minutes into the period and the Barons Nikas Ottosson made the most of a short-handed solo breakaway up the ice to sweetly slot the puck between Senators goalie Mark Hartleys legs and into the net. The Barons wound up an impressive period with a Joe Henry goal in the final two minutes, a close in shot from a feed by Josh Bruce.

The final period would start with further scoring for the Barons, Niklas Ottosson finding Josh Bruce alone and in space in the neutral zone to give the latter a break away and the Barons fifth goal. By the 46th minute the Barons had goal number six, Captain Rob Eley knocking in his own rebounded shot. With five minutes to go Solihull found the net yet again, Niklas Ottosson skating the length of the rink before finding scoring partner Tom Soar for Barons number 7. And it would be Soar who would round things off for the Barons in the final minute as line mate Ed Eaton teed him up for Solihull goal number 8.

So while the Senators are not likely to be among the stronger sides in this year's league, a comfortable win will give the Barons some confidence going forward after a slow start to the season.

The Barons have a busy couple of weekends coming up starting with an away doubleheader to Sheffield Senators on Saturday followed by the long journey North to Billingham Stars on the Sunday. The following Saturday sees the Barons again playing on Sheffield ice, this time against the Spartans before coming back home on Sunday 25th September when this time it is the Spartans who visit Solihull. Face-off 6:00pm.
