Barons dominant in double away Weekender

Saturday 16th November
Hull NL Stingrays : 1
Motor Nation Solihull Barons : 10

Sunday 17th November
Widnes Wild : 2
Motor Nation Solihull Barons : 13

The Motor Nation Solihull Barons emerged from a potentially tricky weekend with four points and a couple of crushing displays to emphasise their current strong run of form.

Saturday’s trip to Hull could easily have gone either way. The Humbersiders, while never likely to threaten as title challengers are capable of producing one-off performances capable of taking points of any side in the league, particularly when playing in their own rink.

The Barons could therefore take no chances and by the end of the first period had opened up a three nil lead, extending this to eight by the second period end, before running out 10-1 winners. While the result was comfortable, with the forwards running up their personal stats it was Barons netminder Sam Hewitt who earned man of the match award for saving five breakaway efforts from Hull as part of an impressive 98% save percentage.

Sunday saw the Barons visit league newcomers Widnes Wild in another potentially tricky fixture. The Wild have demonstrated that they are a fast improving side with a growing fanbase and like Hull have shown the ability to take on any team in the league.

There could be no complacency from the Hobs Moat side and as the night before a three goal lead was built up by the end of the first period, Rich Slater, Thomas Janak and Rob Eley doing the honours. The Barons continued to push through the second period adding a further seven goals by period end and rounding things off with a final three goals for two conceded in the final period. Barons forward Connor Hubbuck picked up the man of the match for his efforts through the game.

Home fans will get the chance to see the Barons in action this Sunday at 6pm when they welcome the Wild and their travelling support to Hobs Moat for the very first time. Make sure you are there – we can’t be out roared !

Next Home Game

The Barons welcome league new boys, the Widnes Wild, to Hobs Moat for the first time ever.

The Widnes side, born from the ashes of the Fylde Flyers, have shown themselves to be a rapidly improving side capable of giving any team in the league a good game.

Make sure you make it to the rink to support the Barons, make it loud and ensure they have that extra man on the ice !
