Barons keep Jets grounded

Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons : 18
Hull Jets : 2

The Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons continued their winning ways on Sunday evening with a convincing victory in a double points game over a young Hull Jets team to see them reinforce their place at the top of the Laidler division.

The first period was all Barons with the Solihull team outshooting the Jets 30 to 13. Without finding the need to over exert themselves, the Barons closed out the period 8-0, including a pair of goals for Niklas Ottosson in the mix.

The second period had the Barons easing off a little as Hull gradually started to work their way into the game. The Jets opened their account in the 26th minute, Matt Jeffcock finding the net. A couple of minutes later and Tom Soar picked up the rebound from a Phil Knight long range effort for the Barons ninth goal. A penalty by Knight would lead to the Jets second goal, Jeffcock again finding a way past Josh Nicholls, though this too would be cancelled by Joe Henry to ensure the Barons retained the eight goal advantage started the period with.

The final twenty had the Barons back on the offensive and scoring at will notching up a further ten goals without loss, the highlight perhaps being Tom Soar placing the puck in the Hull net twice in the space of only seven seconds, the second being a particular peach of a shot into the top right of the Jets goal.

So another win as the Barons move toward twelve months unbeaten but a busy weekend coming up. On Saturday they make the trip to Ice Sheffield to take on a Senators side which has racked up a number of good results this season and who are always strong on home ice. On Sunday the Barons have their last home game for nearly a month when they take on the Nottingham Lions. The Lions, normally very much in the mix at the top end of the table, have had a difficult start to the season regularly coming out the wrong side in closely fought single goal advantage games but held on for the points in a hard fought tie against Widnes on Sunday. Face-off 6pm.

Barons goals : Soar(4), Ottosson(4), Whitehouse(3), Hubbuck(2), Henry(2), Selwood, Janak, Bruce
Barons assists : Eaton(5), Janak(4), Knight(4), Bruce(3), Soar(3), Eley(2), Ottosson(2), Hubbuck(2), Doyle(2), Rogers, Henry, Larkin, Papps
Barons MoM : Tom Soar

The Barons welcome the Nottingham Lions to Solihull for another Midlands Derby.

The Barons met an understrength Lions in a preseason tie, wininng that by a convincing 8-1 margin.

Since then the Lions have struggled to get their season started, losing a string of games by a single goal.

A win last weekend in a physical clash against the Wild will have done their confidence wonders and with ex-Barons Luke Thomas, Adz Andrews and veteran Stuart Parker in the Lions squad both pride and points will be at stake.

Make sure you make it to the rink to support the Barons in what will be a great tie.

Make it loud and ensure they have that extra man on the ice !

Rob Eley talks about Going Sober with Perry
Following Sunday's defeat of the Jets, Rob Eley joined us for a chat on how his fundraising is going and why he feels MacMillan Cancer Support is such a worthwhile cause. He also talked about the warm-up shirts he and Perry wore on Sunday and how you can get hold of one.
"It's going well - it's keeping me in good shape going into the games so that's probably the positive point as far as Darren's concerned and we've had a lot of support from the club both me and Perry. MacMillan Cancer Support is a cause close to my heart and I know it's a very similar situation for Perry. We've tried to make it a bit of fun with the competition between us. We've been receiving donations since the end of September and will keep taking them into November. We've also got the "Go Sober for October" warm up shirts and we are looking at raffling and auctioning these off."
