Barons dampen Dragons Flame

Deeside Dragons : 0
Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons : 7

The Bristol Street Motors Barons had another convincing win at the weekend, this time dominating a Deeside Dragons who have struggled to find form this season despite normally being in the mix at the top of the table.

The Barons worked their way into the game gradually, as they shook off the bus-legs and got the measure of the Welsh side. The scoring deadline was broken by Tom Soar, a brace of goals, one either side of the 15 minute mark set Solihull rolling.

The middle period was all about continuous Solihull pressure with the Dragons struggling to develop much by way of sustained offence. A mere 18 seconds into the period and Niklas Ottosson found Joe Henry for Barons goal number three. By mid-period the Barons had found the net again, Dave Rogers tipping in a Simon Harrison shot. Captain Rob Eley extended the Barons lead as he put the puck past Deeside keeper Dave Clancy to give Solihull a five goal advantage. Man of the Match Niklas Ottosson, added to his points total a couple of minutes before the period end, with a goal to see the Barons head to the dressing room at the end of the second period with a comfortable 6 goal advantage.

The final period saw further Barons pressure, though with the result in no doubt and Deeside trying to salvage some pride in front of the home crowd there was only one more goal, Connor Hubbuck tapping it in from Eddie Eaton for the Barons seventh and final goal of the night. As the final buzzer went it was another two points for the Barons and a shut-out for Barons goalie Josh Nicholls.

The Barons have a busy weekend coming up. On Saturday they make a trip to Bradford to face the Bulldogs, the Yorkshire side having marked their return to senior hockey with a pair of penalty strewn performances. On Sunday the Barons are back on home ice when they welcome, the well drilled and capable Sheffield Senators. Face-off : 6pm.
