Barons edge toward top of Conference

Deeside Dragons : 3
Motor Nation Solihull Barons : 6

15th December 2013

Sunday evening saw the Motor Nation Solihull Barons board the coach back home from a crucial table topping tie at league leaders the Deeside Dragons with a win and a vital two points stashed in the hold.

The game was less than five minutes old when the Barons opened the scoring. Rich Slater putting the puck beyond George Cox in the Deeside net. The teams traded attack and counter-attack for the remainder of the period, Steven Fellows making the most of a powerplay chance to bring the Dragons level by the end of the first twenty minutes.

By the second period the Barons began to hit their full stride. A flurry of mid period goals from Josh Bruce, Eddie Eaton, Connor Hubbuck and Rich Slater saw Solihull take a comfortable lead which rocked the Deeside support. Michael Jones pulled one back for the Dragons via a 35th minute powerplay effort but the writing was on the wall for the Welsh side.

Eddie Slater completed the Barons goal tally for the evening with number six shortly after the third period restart and while this was countered by Deeside's Pete Founds, a number of Dragons penalties allowed the Barons to close out the game without concern.

An important win for the Barons which sees them second in the league and now only one point behind the Deeside Dragons with a game in hand. On Saturday the Barons take a trip to Blackburn to meet basement side the Eagles. This Sunday evening the Nottingham Lions make their way to Solihull for a festive treat for Barons fans. The game will be highly competitive and a big crowd is to be expected. The game is also special, as after the game supporters can take part in a sponsored skate with their favourite Barons in aid of local cause "Help Harry Help Others". Face-off 6pm.
