The Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons had a busy weekend and one which saw them push their winning streak in competitive fixtures, beyond 40 games.

On Saturday the Barons made the short trip North to the Telford Tigers in what was undoubtedly the squad's toughest game of the season and one which came close to upsetting their unbeaten record. Missing a number of key players and against a Telford side who had only dropped four points themselves this season, the tie was always one to watch.

For the travelling Barons support, early nerves were quickly settled by Captain Rob Eley, finding the net after only three minutes. Despite the Barons continuous pressure on the Telford goal there was no further success against an outstanding Denis Bell in the Tigers net and the score remained 1-0 in the Barons favour as the period closed.

The second period would again have the Barons continuing to pepper Bell's net with shots however it would be the Tigers who would have the best of the period where it counted, emerging with a 2-1 advantage, leaving the Barons to enter the final period with their winning streak in real jeopardy .

Things only got tougher as the final period opened, Bradley Betteridge putting the Tigers two goals to the good thanks to a powerplay in the 43rd minute. The Barons comeback would however be late and sweet as chinks gradually began to appear in Denis Bell's netminding, Simon Harrison pulling one goal back for the Barons thanks to a Barons powerplay with 15 minutes to go. Erik Bakalar would then put the Barons back on level terms before Tom Soar eked out the game winning goal after a tense final period.

Sunday saw the Barons welcome the Coventry NL Blaze to Hobs Moat for the latest in a series of charged A45 derbies.

In a fractious game the Barons would be the first onto the scoresheet, Dave Rogers making the most of crowding around the Blaze net to get the opener for the Barons. Two minutes later, and Josh Bruce, fresh from a spell in the penalty box doubled the Barons lead following some neat interplay with Joe Henry for Solihull goal number two. Just after 10 minutes, the same pair combined again, this time Henry finishing the play, slotting the puck under the Coventry netminder's pads for goal number three. The Barons lead continued to extend, Tom Soar finding the net on the thirteenth minute before a powerplay opportunity for Coventry was converted by Charlie Hammerton to peg the Barons advantage back to three goals. Andy Whitehouse took full advantage of a behind the goal pass by Rich Slater to give the Barons back their four goal advantage going into the period close.

The second period had barely started before the Barons extended their lead further, Niklas Ottosson with a sweet one time shot after a slick cross ice pass from Joe Henry. This was further added to five minutes into the period, Tom Soar racing up the ice before unleashing a rocket of a shot which all but lifted the Coventry net off its moorings. The Barons would continue racking up the goals through the remainder of the period, highlights probably being goals nine and ten which respectively saw Rich Slater and Niklas Ottosson both waltz their way through the Coventry defence before finding the net. Further goals were also scored by Josh Bruce, Joe Henry and Rob Eley to leave the score at the end of the second period 12:1 to the Barons. The middle of the period was however marred by incidents which saw the Barons Andy Whitehouse leave the ice injured while Solihull's Rich Slater and Coventry's Arthur Brookes found themselves sent to the dressing room following a confrontation.

The final period would see the Barons continue to pad their totals with goals for Rob Eley, Edward Eaton, Richard Crowe and Joe Henry with a consolation effort from Philip Mulcahy for the Blaze.

The Barons are now off for a well deserved Christmas break before they return on the 10th January, away at Sheffield and the 17th at Widnes, with the Wild making the return trip to Solihull on Sunday 18th January. Face-off 6pm.
