Barons canter to Derby Win

Coventry NL Blaze : 2
Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons : 10

The Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons came out with a convincing win against the National League Coventry Blaze in an A45 derby, which was effectively a one horse race for much of the tie.

The Barons were quick onto the score sheet, Tom Soar slotting the puck into the Blaze net within a little over a minute from the puck drop and by five minutes Rich Slater had doubled the lead.

Just before the fifteen minute mark the defensive pairing of Perry Doyle and Richard Crowe combined for goal number 3 and by the time the teams returned to the dressing room at the period end, Ryan Selwood and Joe Henry had added a further two goals thanks to powerplay chances.

The second period saw the Barons ease out their lead with a fairly dominant performance and tapped in a further three goals courtesy of Edward Eaton, Dave Rogers and Tom Soar.

The final period was much more physical in character. An incident between Andy Whitehouse of the Barons and Daniel Barker of the Blaze flared up and saw both players heading to the penalty box. This was shortly followed by Barons captain for the night Perry Doyle being sent to the dressing room after a clash with Phillip Pollock, his opposite number for the Blaze.

There was further excitment as the period closed out with Simon Harrison and ex-Baron Dale Buckland sharing pleasantries in the final minute.

Amongst all the penalties, each side picked up two goals in this final twenty, Selwood and Soar doing the honours for Solihull, to leave the Barons convincing 10-2 winners.

The Barons have a slightly quieter weekend coming up due to the postponement of Saturday’s away tie against Hull. They will however be back on home ice on Sunday when they welcome the Widnes Wild to the Solihull rink. The Wild are the youngsters of the league having only existed as a team for two seasons but have put together a strong on-ice package backed by a crew of enthusiastic supporters which should ensure a good game and good atmosphere on Sunday night. Face-off 6pm.
