Two games and two wins for the high flying Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons over the past weekend allowed the Hobs Moat team to further extend their record busting unbeaten streak.

On Saturday the Barons travelled to play basement side the Bradford Bulldogs in what turned out to be a fairly straightforward tie, Josh Bruce getting involved in a fight on the way to picking up no less than nine points through two goals and seven assists.

Sunday had the Barons back on home ice as they welcomed the National League Coventry Blaze to Solihull for an A45 derby. The Blaze, by most peoples expectations, have under performed this season and sit toward the wrong end of the table. Arriving at table toppers, the Barons, with a short bench thanks to some senior injuries and a conflicting tie for the juniors made a return to form unlikely.

So it was to be with the Barons getting their opening goal after just a minute, Ryan Selwood having space and time to slot the puck in to the net from the back post. The Blaze however stabilised and for much of the period were able to at least contain the Barons. A powerplay for Coventry on the thirteenth minute was capitalised on by Antti Kohvakka, shooting through traffic to bring the Blaze back level. This appeared to give the Barons some more focus and by period end Connor Hubbuck, Thomas Janak and Edward Eaton had given the Barons a 4-1 lead.

The Barons would get five more goals in the second period, the highlights probably being a skillful Niklas Ottosson waltz through the defence before scoring and immediately off the restart Dave Rogers going straight up the ice before putting the puck into the roof of the Coventry net. The period would also see a brace of goals from Tom Soar and a single from Joe Henry.

The period would end controversially. A slash by Coventry's Dale Buckland on Baron's Tomas Janak saw the two go toe to toe. Immediately following this however tempers flared around the Blaze bench leading to some delay to the game while the officials sorted out the penalties.

The Barons would rack up a further five goals in the final period - Andy Whitehouse, Connor Hubbuck, Josh Bruce, Jake Larkin and Niklas Ottosson doing the honours.

The Barons are back in action this weekend when the Nottingham Lions make the relatively short trip to Solihull. The Lions currently sit mid-table but will be keen to move into promotion contention during the season run-in, so a competitive tie is on the cards, Face-off : 6:00pm.
