Blackburn Hawks : 8
Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons : 2
It was always going to be a big ask and so it would prove to be as the Lookers of Yardley Solihull Barons made the trip North to take on the Blackburn Hawks. While elsewhere in the Moralee conference every game has the prospect of going either way the Hawks have emerged as run away league leaders, having yet to drop a point.
The Barons however put up a strong showing on Sunday with the scoreline not fully conveying the efforts of the Solihull side.
The first period would see the Barons fire no less than 27 shots on the Blackburn goal but it would be the Hawks who would race to a three goal lead. The Barons efforts would finally be rewarded as they would score twice in the eighteenth minute thanks to efforts from Joe Henry and Rob Eley. This counter from the Barons would however be tempered by a Ben Simister goal for the Hawks to give a 4-2 scoreline in favour of the home side going into the second period.

The remainder of the game would see the sides evenly matched in open ice play but outstanding play by the Hawks goalie Danny Brittle would ensure the puck never again crossed the Blackburn goal line while the Hawks themselves would find the net four more times to leave a rather disappointing 8-2 scoreline for the Barons travelling support.
The Barons have no games this weekend before a busy start to December. On Wednesday 2nd December the Barons welcome the fully professional and import laden Elite League Sheffield Steelers to the Solihull rink in a special fixture set-up to support captain Rob Eley's 19 for 19 testimonial campaign in aid of Ward 19 at Heartlands hospital.
The following Sunday, 6th December, the Barons are back on league duty when the Sutton Sting visit Solihull for the first time in a number of years.

NEXT HOME GAME
WEDNESDAY 2nd DECEMBER
|
|
The Barons next home game is a bit of a special one as the Barons take on Elite league legends the Sheffield Steelers.
As a result of Barons captain Rob Eley's 19 for 19 testimonial campaign, the management of the Steelers have decided to show tremendous upport for this cause and bring the Elite league side to Solihull for one very special evening.
The links between the Steelers and Barons go right back to the formation of the Sheffield side. Current ties between the two sides are not difficult to find either; Steelers coach Paul Thomson played for both Solihull and Sheffield while a team mate from those years and an imposing figure on the mid-90s Steelers blue-line was none other than Perry Doyle.
This will not be one to miss so make it loud and ensure the Barons have that extra man on the ice ! |

NEXT HOME LEAGUE GAME
SUNDAY 6th DECEMBER
|
|
The Barons next home league game is against old foes the Sutton Sting.
The Barons and Sting last clashed back in 2010-11. At that time the Sting were very much the brash new kids on the block and their ties with the Barons were often highly charged.
Since then the Sting have shown themselves to be a mainstay of the upper tier of National Hockey while the Barons have only this year started to challenge seriously at this level.
With the league ever competitive a great game is forecast and the Barons will be keen to ensure their strong home form.
