Sunday 16th February 2014
The Motor Nation Solihull Barons inched closer to the Laidler Conference title with a convincing win away at basement side, the Blackburn Eagles on Sunday.
The first period saw the Barons quickly hit their stride, Jake Larkin opening the scoring early for the Barons. The score was soon doubled thanks to Eddie Eaton, while Tomas Janak converted to give the Barons a comfortable three-nil lead by period end.
The second period saw Solihull begin to stretch their legs, Connor Hubbuck getting goal number four while Slovak forwards Erik Bakalar and Tomas Janak rattled in numbers five and six for the Barons. The period ended with two further goals, Rich Slater and Andy Whitehouse.
With the game won, the final period was played out with no scores on either side, the Barons simply keen to preserve net minder and man of the match, Josh Nicholl's shut-out.
The Barons return home to Hobs Moat with a further two points added to the table this Sunday they welcome the Widnes Wild to the Solihull rink. New boys to the league, the Wild, had a slow start to the season but buoyed by a strong home support have found themselves gaining no little respect from old hands in the game. The Wild come to Solihull off a good set of results, winning their last four games and who would love nothing more than to upset the Barons apple cart. Face-off 6pm.
