Barons Blast Blackburn
Blackburn Eagles : 2
Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons : 13
The Bristol Street Motors Solihull Barons picked up four points on Saturday evening thanks to a clinical dismissal of the Blackburn Eagles in the Barons only visit of the season to their Lancashire rink.
Over the years the Eagles have been the perennial Laidler Conference whipping boys but 2014-15 has seen improved performances by the Blackburn side including wins over Nottingham, Deeside and Bradford as well as being the only side to get more than 5 goals past the Barons this season.
While the Eagles were first onto the scoresheet on Saturday night, Michael Fletcher scoring just after two minutes, by ten minutes into Saturday's game it was fairly clear that the Barons year long winning record would not be upset. A brace of goals from Connor Hubbuck sandwiching a Joe Henry powerplay effort gave the Barons a two goal cushion to build on.
By period end the Barons were comfortable with a 5-1 lead and stepped back a little in the second period adding "only" two more before completing the rout with a further seven goals for only one conceded in the final period.
It will be hoped a large contingent of travelling supporters will follow the Barons as they make the short trip along A45 this Saturday, to take on the Coventry NIHL Blaze at the Skydome. The Blaze have had a very mixed season so far, struggling to string together consistent winning performances but with the shared history and significant rivalry between the two sides, the visit of the Barons should see an entertaining game played out. Face-off : 5pm.
Barons goals : Henry (2), Knight (2), Hubbuck (2), Janak (2), Rogers, D Harrison, Slater, Bruce, Soar
Barons assists : Slater (3), Janak (2), Larkin (2), Bruce (2), Henry, D Harrison, Whitehouse, Bakalar, Doyle, Soar, Hubbuck
Barons Man of the Match : Sam Hewitt

The Barons welcome the Widnes Wild to Solihull for their first visit of the current season.
The Barons met the Wild on their ice, earlier this season coming out convinvcing winners.
Few however will forget the Laidler Play-off Semi-final last year where a spirited Wild pushed the Barons to the limits in a closely fought tie.
Make sure you make it to the rink to support the Barons in what will be a great tie.
Make it loud and ensure they have that extra man on the ice ! |
