Billingham Stars : 3

The Lookers of Yardley Barons returned to winning ways with a convincing victory over the Billingham Stars on Sunday evening at Solihull ice rink.

It was the Stars who opened the scoring, Jack Davies catching the Barons on a line change, for goal number one for Billingham with only two minutes on the clock. Two minutes later and Ed Eaton evened things up for the home side with a lofted shot from six feet out. The Stars would strike back once more through Ben Dawson before a trio of goals from Solihull would give the Barons a 4-2 advantage heading to the dressing room. Josh Bruce picked up the first of these, siezing on an unclaimed puck in the Billingham goal crease. This was followed by a physical effort from Niklas Ottosson, bundling his way through the Billingham defence for the Barons number 3, before Solihull captain Rob Eley got the final goal of the period with a skate through the Stars goal mouth before backhanding the puck into the net.

The second period would continue at a similar pace but without the finishing, both sides picking up their defensive play to make quality shots on goal hard to come by and those that there were being successfully dealt with by Sam Hewitt for the Barons and James Flavell for the Stars. A 4 on 4 situation toward the end of the period would see the only goal of the middle twenty minutes, as Josh Bruce found the net for the Barons.

The final period would continue with the Barons in the ascendency again. It would however be the Stars who would score first - a powerplay being quickly converted off of the face-off via a slapshot from the left hand point by Thomas Keeley. No sooner was the game restarted and the Barons were awarded their own powerplay and again it was a shot from another left sided defence-man, Ryan Selwood, which saw the Barons regain their three goal advantage.

The Barons will have a tough tie coming up on Sunday when they travel to Blackburn to take on the Hawks, a side yet to drop a point in the Moralee conference. They will be back on home ice on Sunday, 6th December when they welcome the Sutton Sting to the Solihull rink.

NEXT HOME GAME
SUNDAY 6th DECEMBER

The Barons next home game is against old foes the Sutton Sting.

The Barons and Sting last clashed back in 2010-11. At that time the Sting were very much the brash new kids on the block and their ties with the Barons were often highly charged.

Since then the Sting have shown themselves to be a mainstay of the upper tier of National Hockey while the Barons have only this year started to challenge seriously at this level.

With the league ever competitive a great game is forecast and the Barons will be keen to ensure their strong home form.

Make it loud and ensure the Barons have that extra man on the ice !
