TC Cars Solihull Barons vs The Dragons

-

Recap

After the tension of last weekend’s last gasp victory over the Hull Pirates, the TC Cars Solihull Barons emerged much more comfortable victors on Sunday evening with an assured win over old foes the Dragons.

The Barons played the first period with confidence against a somewhat subdued Dragons side and were rewarded with  a fistful of goals in the first twenty. After only a minute Ed Eaton was picked out in space straight infront of goal and took time to place his shot for the Barons opening goal. Five minutes later and the same player picked up his second goal, this time a tap in on the back post off of a pass from Tomas Janak. Two minutes later and Luke Brittle added to the tally as he raced up the left wing before rattling in a shot off of the keeper and the post and within seconds Josh Bruce scored a gritty solo effort as he shrugged off the close attention of the Dragons defence for Solihull’s number 4. The Barons first period tally was rounded off by Luke Brittle once more with a close in effort on the left hand post as Solihull made the most of a delayed penalty situation. Geoff Wigglesworth pulled one back for the visitors as the period wound down to just about keep the visitors with some hope heading to the dressing room.

The second period initially had a slightly slower pace of scoring but the Barons stayed very much on top with Josh Bruce netting from a front of net melee for Solihull’s number 6 just shy of the half hour mark. An apparent Matt Maurice breakaway goal was waived off but goal seven was not slow in coming, Tomas Janak this time. Goals 8, 9 and 10 also hurried along, Dave Rogers, Luke Brittle and Ed Eaton with his hat-trick all finding the net. Again the Dragons found a consolation goal to round of the period but by now the game was only going one way.

The final period would again see the Barons find the net a further five times to the Dragons 1, the Barons goals coming from Josh Bruce picking up his hat-trick together with a pair each from Matt Maurice and Niklas Ottosson. It would be the latter who would score the goal of the period if not the game, a short handed breakaway effort which saw him cut to the right round the Dragons defence before backhanding the puck into the net from an extremley tight angle to help round off a convincing victory for the Barons.
